Bike Race 2008

So have you ever thought it would be a good idea to not work out for weeks and then get on a bike and ride 10.9 miles up and down hills? I would strongly urge you to at least hit the gym once before you try it. However, if it's Corporate Challenge AND it only happens once a year AND you've done it before...Heck, why not?! So we rounded up the crew and this is what our conference room turned out to look like:
I think there was more money in bikes here that if the building caught on fire - these would be more important then anything else! Especially my boss's bike (some people buy cars- he bought a bike of equal value)! These bikes are from his collection.
This little Betsy only failed me twice. The chain came off because I tried to shift too fast and there was no recovery but a lesson well learned. A funny side note: there is a timer and distance counter on it and I thought the race was 12 miles, so at mile 10 I said to some strange girl that was riding next to me, "only 2 more to go!" Then we turned the corner and finished!! So much for the 2 more! Hope she didn't think I was trying to fool her!

This is Jaimie on Harry's bike. Yep, Harry rode this for 10.9 miles straight and didn't stop. He rode it last year and at the finish they were all clapping for him. He actually does really well! And no, you can't go buy this in the store - he built (or pieced) it from scratch himself. Jaimie kicked trash and took 1st in her age group!

This is me finally home for the night. I would take a picture in my killer spandex padded shorts but that would hurt your eyes! Spandex expands!! I took 4th in my age group (probably out of 4 but they don't tell you that!)

Successfully Busy

Oh, where to begin. This week has been successfully busy! Successful in a way that this coming week is study week and then I successfully completed another semester. I turned in a number of papers, power points, and other homework assignments before it was over. So I have a week off to study, a week of finals, and then I immediately start summer school. BUSY. My house is a disaster pit and as soon as Jake goes to bed tonight I plan on dusting, vacuuming, and folding clothes. Saturday evening I was so tired of looking at school books that I decided to sew. I covered 4 of the 9 pillows on the couch. Why buy a new couch when you can just cover the pillows? I'm just taking scrap material that I've had forever and making covers. Not ghetto style though. They at least match - kinda. I'm using navy, cream, red, and probably green or yellow (I haven't decided). Either way, when it comes to making button holes...I'm a professional.
This is the back of one that I finish (minus the buttons)
Okay don't mind the pile of scrapbook stuff on the other end of the table. I just finished a huge scrapbook and was too lazy to put the rest a way!
These are two other random pictures the I couldn't let go to waste. One is for my sister to see the side view of my hair.

I also managed to give the dogs a haircut early this morning and yesterday morning. Now that the entire family has short hair (or no hair in Jake's case) for the summer, hopefully it will stay cool for a while.
Today I received the best news! No, I didn't win Publisher's Clearing House. I was released from Nursery! YEE HAW! It was a bitter sweet moment. I did have the best class. None of them cried. Two crapped their pants every Sunday at the same time (clock work I must say). They knew how to sit in their chair for 30 minutes and eat snacks, drink out of dixie cups, and color. They would all hold on the rope when we went on walks - like champs! If you asked who helped make bugs, plants, clouds, etc. - they would respond, "Jesus". If you told them it was nap time, they would lay down! On a good day they could put toys away in 2 minutes flat. Even though they didn't sing, they still would do the hand motions for most of the songs - mainly Wheels on the Bus, the Wise Man and the Foolish Man, and Popcorn Popping on the Apricot Tree. Oh, to be able to go to talk to some one at church and get a response! Sitting next to my husband in Sunday school will be fun. Listening to old ladies in Relief Society talk about canning...wow that never sounded so exciting! It's like I'm in a new ward! I have no friends except Jake and the 2 year olds that new my bag was full of treats. The hardest part will be having to go 3 hours without eating! How sad!? Well, I'm off to clean!

Las Vegas 51's

This last Friday Jake and I went to a Las Vegas 51's baseball game. It was really fun. They were playing the Portland Beavers. Sorry Megan and John...Porland lost by one! This picture of us is pretty funny looking. I always say that married couples start looking like each other after a couple years...we look like each other in this picture!!
Our long bench line consisted of Tommy, Josh, Nathan, Ateam, another guy I can't remember his name (one of Tommy's co-workers), Vinny, Phaedra, Jake, and me! I couldn't get anyone's attention for a picture and I don't think everyone was really sitting all at the same time. There were drink runs, bathroom breaks, peanut purchases, and hot dog cravings throughout this 3 1/2 hr. game!
So every time that I would try and take a picture of the players, this guy that could almost pass for Drew Carey would stick his head over to talk to his buddies. So this dark picture of the opposite team batting is what we got! Which is an amazing picture of the batter because he was the first of the night to hit it over the wall! YEAH!

So some fun facts of our game:
the score was 11 Portland 12 Las Vegas, there were 5 broken bats, 4 over the fence home runs, Nate Tannenbaum (local weather man) played the flute for the National Anthem, we ate a bag of peanuts, a pretzel, a hotdog, and had 3 drinks (of soda)!, everyone else in our party had about 3 drinks of beer each, we got a seat cushion for being one of the 1st 2500 people there, we heckled and cheered, and it was an exciting 9 innings. Next game...May 9th!

When do you step in?

So I woke up Saturday morning and while down stairs the dogs ran outside and started barking. Our dogs aren't normally allowed to bark unless there is someone or something around the house. So I glanced out the back door and saw two kids in their upstairs window looking out. Not only were they looking out they were spraying Windex through the screen at their dog below. Soon the Windex bottle became a gun and he was shooting my dogs (making the noise and all). I didn't think it was a big deal (minus the kid having Windex) he's just preparing to enter school and is getting a little target practice in. Right? The big problem came when he stood up in the window sill and pressed his face against the screen as his sister was banging on the bottom! Then I freaked. This kid was going to plummet 2 stories and hit dirt, concrete, or furniture below him! I sat and watched (and took pictures) waiting with shoes on for him to fall so I would have to jump the wall and help this little guy out. I know I did some really dumb stuff when I was a kid but at that time, if a neighbor yelled at you and you listened. It was okay to yell at other kids. You can't do that now. Thankfully his mom walked in the room yelled at him paddle his butt (while he was still in the window!) and cleaned the mess. So the question is: When do you (a) yell at a kid to get out of the window sill (especially the screen side!) or (b) walk over to the house to tell his parents? and then what do you say, "hey I live kitty-corner to you and I've been watching your kids play with Windex and bang on the screen up stairs, I even have pictures to prove it"? I could see the next step to that...Emily Brashear "Registered Sex Offender"! Anyway, here's the little guy and his sister when they were just starting out on their "cleaning day".

All you can do is laugh!

Have you ever wondered what would happen if you cut off a pony tail? Well at our house...we found out! I was cooking dinner and Jake came up behind me and asked, "what would you do if I cut off your pony tail?" I said, "between you and Derek (a guy I work with) it's bound to happen one of these days." Then there was a pause. Then SNIP!! He really cut off my pony tail. We both started laughing so hard! It was funny! For those that know me, know I'm not really into my hair. I'm too cheap to pay more then $20 for a cut and that's IF I can't sucker a friend to do it for free (experienced or not). And no I didn't cry. It's just hair and it will grow back. But there was one problem. I had a mullet!! I'm not into hair but I'm into it enough not to have a mullet! Monday was supposed to be a tight schedule. Come home from work, eat dinner, go weigh Jake in for the Biggest Loser, hit the library and write my midterm paper. Now we had to throw in a hair cut! Shannon was able to fix my hair temporarily until Nicole (a licensed hair lady) does it on Saturday. Not that you can even tell that someone professional didn't do it! I hope everyone learns from these pictures what happens when you cut off a pony tail! Remember the hair closest to the band is going to be the shortest!! Thank you Jacob!

This is an amazing flashback to the 80's.

My sad attempt to pull my hair back! When we went to weigh Jake in for the biggest loser i put on his hat and he looked at me and said, "hey! what am I going to do about my hat hair?" I just started laughing and said, "you cut off my pony tail and you're worried about your HAT HAIR!" Oh we got a good laugh out of that!
A scraggly late night picture for the blog!

and the back! I must admit that it's easy to do, it uses less shampoo and conditioner, and it's not going to be hot this summer! In Jake's semi defense there was a point that I wanted to cut off all of my hair but I didn't because I was too chicken.

Pine Creek (Red Rock) and Rolling Eggs!

This morning we went with Jaimie and Josh Mills to Red Rock to explore a new hike. We ventured to Pine Creek where the water was flowing and the trail was unclear. Although there was a sign posted that said "Wilderness". I'm glad it was clarified but last I checked...the entire park is in the wilderness! We got a good laugh out of it.
Jake was the first to step in the water and get wet. It wasn't freezing but still a little chilly!
I got a little sun too! I ended up with a little burn on my neck and pink arms! Yeah...summer is coming!
Some lady and her husband had stopped to eat near the top of the semi-marked trail. They were different. They asked if we had any "biddle" or something like that. Jake thought she asked for a fiddle. Either way, we had no clue what she was talking about. We asked her to snap our picture and as it turns out she cut off Jake's head! (and I'm sticking out my gut because I was falling backwards!)
Oh and the fun doesn't stop there! Later this evening we ate dinner, watched a movie, colored eggs, and then rolled them? Rolling eggs is definitely a Utah thing. I heard Shanae (old roommate) her family doing this. A guy at work mentioned he was going to do it this weekend. Then Jaimie asked me if we did it. I guess Josh's family does. So...we gave it a try! We drove to the park and the hill was lame. So we drove to a construction site and rolled eggs Vegas style! On a bumpy mound of dirt. I guess you're supposed to do it on a hill that you can watch them break. Jake is the law abiding citizen that continually reminded me in the car that according to the NRS trespassing IS against the law and we were going to get fined by the police! He stood at the bottom of the hill and was the photographer! If you look hard enough you can see Jaime, Me, and Josh. Then the remains along with a broken beer bottle!
